TGIF Thank God It’s Football

It’s finally here!  2011 NFL season kicks off Thursday and what more can you ask than Green Bay vs. New Orleans matchup?  This could be the best game of the season, in the very first game of the year.  Or maybe not, who knows?  We haven’t played a down of regular season football, so really anything can happen.

Peter King at SI has predicted Atlanta vs. San Diego in the Super Bowl this season, so it’s safe to bet that’s going to happen, since the football Buddha successfully predicted a Packers-Steelers matchup in last year’s issue.

With all that being said, and nothing proven quite yet, here is the Sports Minion’s Top 10 NFL teams coming into week one. Read more…

Aaron Rodgers Has A New Ring

The New A-Rod

The latest in a line of successful A-Rods, is Super Bowl XLV MVP, Aaron Rodgers.  As told by many sports writers, analysts, and the John Clayton’s of the world, Green Bay has had a love/hate relationship with Rodgers since he was drafted out of Cal in 2005.  Using their sole first round pick on a replacement for an aging Brett Favre, led to chants of off with your head to the decision makers in Green Bay.   Fans were perplexed that their team used a first round draft choice to replace a guy who just finished the season throwing for over 4,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. Troy Polamalu will showcase some big hits

Charles Barkley: The Voice of Reason?

Charles knows what's up

Charles Barkley is the voice of reason and made some intelligent points today regarding Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.  Barkley?  The same guy who once said, “As long as I led the Southeastern Conference in scoring, my grades would be fine,” shows more intellect than a number of players currently in the NFL. Big Ben vs. A-Rod III

A-Rod III brings Green Bay back to Super Bowl

The second most popular Big Ben and the third most popular A-Rod, (behind Alex Rodriguez and Andy Roddick), will face off in Super Bowl XLV.  Two young quarterbacks under the age of 30, each with a winning playoff record, in a showdown that will more than likely break any ratings records.  The Sports Minion still can’t believe SI’s Peter King predicted this game, and I’m puzzled how I went 0-2 in my predictions this past weekend, but one thing’s for sure, we can expect a tremendous game.  The Sports Minion early prediction:  Packers 27 – Steelers 24.  We’ll match it up later this week…

Bear Down Bears Win

Bears will end Packers season this week

In the greatest rivalry in all of sports, yes it is Beantown.  Green Bay travels to Chicago this Sunday in a do or die match up.  You can bet this game will go down in history as one of the best between these two storied franchises.  The Sports Minion believes Lovie Smith and his Chicago Bears will win this battle and continue on to Dallas.  Let’s match it up… Read more…
